INFO:
Bashir was a centre-back. He spent the majority of his career at Al-Merreikh, where he made 342 appearances and scored 17 goals from 1951 to 1964. He played also for Al-Horriya and Al-Hilal Club. He capped for Sudan at least 21 times, scoring 1 goal and taking part to the African Cup of Nations in 1957 and 1959. He scored Sudan's first ever goal in an African Cup of Nations in 1957.
One of the best defenders in Sudan's history, Bashir was distinguished for his skills, ball control, graceful touches, powerful headers and high level of performance. He could score with his head even from 18 yards or from difficult positions. Furthermore, he could score with his feet too. These abilities allowed him to score a fair number of goals, especially for a defender of the 1950s. He was truly a rare kind of player given that his style of play was anything but what the fans expected. When Hungary played a friendly match against Al-Merreikh in the late 1950s, none other than Ferenc Puskás praised the team and especially the defensive line that was led, of course, by Bashir.
