INFO:
Ingham began his career as centre half but his position was changed to left-back because he was a bit short in height. One of Queens Park Rangers greatest captaind and legends, he holds the record for most appearances with 548 games from 1950 to 1963. He played also for Harrogate Town in his early career and Leeds United from 1947 to 1950 even though he gained only 3 appearances due to the competition of Grenville Hair, Jack Milburn and even John Charles who played also in defence. An ever-present at QPR, he didn't miss a single match between 1956 and 1961.
Probably due to the fact that he played as proper left-back, it's said that Ingham was one of the original overlapping side-backs. He was considered ahead of his time thanks to his playstyle: he had the confidence to go through during an offensive move, using the ball with accuracy, covering plenty of ground but not giving anything away in defence. He scored three goals and he remembered mostly two of them: one was a shot from near the half way and the strong wind made the ball go over the opposing goalkeeper's head; the other one was a beatiful shot, hit just right.
