INFO:

Legendary West Brom captain and one of their greatest defenders. Len Millard was a left back with excellent marking skills, very good positioning and good reflexes which he used to intercept passes. He is most well remembered for marking Tom Finney out the game in the 1954 FA Cup final: he was stuck to Finney like glue, perfectly tackling him time and time again and not letting him have an influence on the match. Although he was also slow and not agile which led to him being unable to recover on the rare occasion the opposition did manage to dribble past him. He was also pretty good with the ball for a defender of his era and could play his way out of trouble with good short passes, and could send nice longer passes forward instead of just kicking it as far away as possible like many defenders back then. He was a very focused and consistent player and he gave no ground to his opponents for 90 minutes straight, earning the nickname "The Agitator" because of the frustration he caused; this was despite him never being booked once in his 476 games for West Brom and being known for his humble, gentlemanly demeanour. An excellent defender.
