George Farm is considered the best goalkeeper in Blackpool history. He was widely known for his unorthodox style of play, preferring to catch the ball with his hands on the top and bottom instead of on the sides. He once played as a striker after injuring his shoulder during the game, and scored a header. He was also thought to be one of the first goalkeepers in England to help organise his defence, something that was very influential on Gordon Banks who was a big fan of him. Curiously, he also took goal kicks with his right foot and kicked punts with his left foot, despite his goal kicks rarely reaching the halfway line. He played for Blackpool for 12 years, taking part in two FA Cup finals, including the famous "Matthews final" in 1953, a match that he described as one of the worst of his career, giving away two easy goals. Despite this he was known as a reliable keeper, very brave with good handling and physique, and he was a model professional and perfectionist who would stay behind in training after everyone else left.
