He was the right back of arguably the greatest Luxembourg team in history that almost qualified for the 1964 European Championships after eliminating the Netherlands. He's also considered the most emblematic player of Stade Dudelange. Brenner was converted from a forward into a defender, and so had good technical skills for a right back of his era. His main strengths were his positional sense and composure, which made him a good marker. He also stood out for his leadership and brave personality. On the other hand he was quite slow and stiff, weak in the air and his tackles weren't always well timed. He won 68 caps in total for Luxembourg and captained the team often, although most of these games were against the amateur teams of bigger European countries.
