Bertini was a defensive. He spent the majority of his career at Inter, playing 297 matches and scoring 38 goals from 1968 to 1977. He played also for Prato, Empoli, Fiorentina and Rimini, retiring in 1978. He gained 25 caps for Italy, scoring twice.
Bertini was a complete midfielder. He guaranteed quantity to the team thanks to his excellent contribution in terms of strength, covering ability and speed on the run. Also, he was gifted with fine technique, dribbling and accuracy with both feet. He was dangerous in attack, thanks to his ability to score in many different ways. He could wait in the box for a header or an accurate shot, he was effective with powerful kicks from the distance, an able free kick taker and a penalty specialist. Thanks to his great determination, stamina and and self-sacrifice, he wasn't just a defensive midfielder with the interdiction task but one who also pushed forward, fighting against fatigue until the end of the game. All that with showing a high level of performance and reliability in every match.
