Neil James Young was born (17 February 1944) in Fallowfield, Manchester. Young signed for Manchester City as an apprentice in 1959, turning down the opportunity to join Manchester United. After breaking into the team in the season 1961-62, he made more than 400 appearances with 108 goals in more than 12 years at Maine Road. A wonderfully elegant attacking winger, armed with a gifted left foot and an eagle eye for goal, Young’s impact and influence on City’s golden period of the late 1960 and early 1970s cannot be overstated. Young was a more direct forward comparing to his partners in the frontline - Francis Lee, rarely dealed with the ball for more than three touches, sometimes he dribbled through the defences or even goalies, but he usually prefered shooting at the 1st touch. Despite not really fast, he had decent techniques that helped create enough space for a hard shot. Beside his shooting ability, he could also create chances for his teammates by through passes or some tight crosses.
