Martín Marrero De la Cruz was one of the first offensive side backs in Spanish league. Martin was pacy right back although he playes sometimes on the left side also. Small and fast player, lively and impulsive with his offensive runs on the flank but he was good in marking as well, very good technically. He spent three years with Espanyol, who transferred him next to José Juan, at UD Las Palmas at the start of 1966-67 season. His first coach in Las Palmas was Juan Ochoa, who uses it in different districts, but preferably on both sides of the defense. Since its first performance takes hold as fixed in the team, staying for 14 years defending the yellow color which gets its biggest sporting success.  In the 67-68 season begins to play on the right side of the defense, relieving the veteran captain Ernesto Aparicio. For these qualities and joy of his game apart from a great point of honor to defend the colors, which caused him cards and warnings, the sympathies of the audience grancanario wins and are set at the national selectors that he first led him to the U -23 and then to the senior team. His first game with the national shirt is played in Lisbon on November 22, 1967 against Portugal. His career in Toba Eduardo ascension makes him call for the senior team in qualifying match for the World Mexico'70, on February 23, 1969 held in Liege against Belgium, where he suffers a serious injury and was replaced at half-time. He returned to action three times with the first spanish team. In Sevilla, against Mexico, on April 23, 1969; in Barcelona, against Yugoslavia on April 30, 1969 and its last performance against Finland on 25 June of the same year at the Olympic Stadium in Helsinki. With Las Palmas Martin enjoyed the great successes of the Canary team in the league and Copa del Rey, participating in numerous international matches. It is one of the players who has played more games with the yellow team, totals about 400, obtaining, despite playing in defense, almost twenty goals. His farewell from active football was in the 78-79 season. In 1983 took charge of the first team that rises from Tenerife 2SB and can be considered to be the starting point for the great team that Whites get into the nineties. Although it is stopped by the bad results and returns to train lower-level teams, being the Messenger of La Palma, the last in which he has been practicing. His brilliant and long career as player and coach, makes Martin Marrerol a legend that young players have a lot to learn from.
