INFOS:

Lou Macari was one of the leading Manchester United players in the 1970s. Originally a striker at Celtic and in his early days at United, he was converted to an attack minded midfielder known for his late runs into the box and goalscoring ability. He was also very tidy in possession, rarely giving the ball away and having some nice passing abilities. This along with his defensive workrate allowed him to play in central midfield in a 4-4-2 which is when he reached his peak. Maybe his most famous quality was his superb aerial abilities despite usually being the smallest player on the pitch. He could reach great heights and hang in the air while directing accurate headers towards goal. He wasn't very powerful but he was willing to chase the ball and tackle opponents much bigger than himself, although he wasn't some great fighter on the pitch. Most of the time he would hang back when his team had possession and then when the wingers got forward enough he would suddenly dart inside the box and try to get on the end of a cross. This nose for goal was proven by his good scoring record for United, with 97 goals in 404 games. Macari also played for Scotland at the 1978 World Cup.
