INFO:
Martini is a former defender and midfielder. He started his career as defensive midfielder but established himself as side back or wing back on the left flank. He spent most of his career at Lazio, playing 249 matches and scoring 10 goals from 1971 to 1979. He played also for Lucchese, Siena, Livorno, in the United States for Chicago Sting and in Canada for Toronto Blizzard. He capped once for Italy in 1974.
Martini acted as offensive fullback who could move forward unlimitedly to support the attack. In fact, he was one of the players who made most movement alongside Re Cecconi. He rarely reached the end of the field though because he rather moved diagonally to draw out the opposing sweeper and give his teammates the chance to play more freely. Due to his great speed and constant runs up and down the left flank, he was compared to Emil Zátopek, Czech runner who won 5.000 m, 10.000 m and Marathon at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics. He was also gifted with remarkable technical abilities and when he was near the opposing area, he mostly looked for crosses − which were very accurate − and occasionally for a shot.

https://youtu.be/Ds3hg9Bh0eI?t=54 one of his usual attacking actions ending with an accurate cross

Quote:
Noi eravamo due anomali, un destro messo a sinistra (indietreggiato dal centro campo), Luigi era un grande trascinatore, correva molto sulle fasce.
