INFO:Frank Kopel was a Scottish left back who was a regular part of the first strong Dundee United generation. He was an early signing by Jim McLean in 1972 who started building a team that could compete at the highest level. By the time Kopel left after 10 years as the starting left back, Dundee United were one of the best teams in the country and finally won the league title the season after. Kopel was a solid defender, pretty quick and reactive that made him a good one-on-one defender, and with decent technique and passing when he got on the ball. Above all he was consistent and reliable. He wasn't much of a scorer but is well remembered for scoring an incredible volley against Anderlecht in 1979 that put United through on away goals, one of the first big results in Europe for the club, with many more to follow. In total he played over 400 games for United and won 2 League Cup titles, the first major trophies in the club's history.
