Yuswardi is a former right-back who could also play centre-back. He spent his entire career at PSMS Medan from 1964 to mid 1970s. He was team captain in his last few seasons at the club. He represented Indonesia from 1967 to 1975.
Possibly the best right-back Indonesia has ever produced, Yuswardi showed good abilities since he was young. A skilled defender, he was distinguished for his fighting spirit, the ability to protect his side and support the attacks by moving up and down the right flank. He also scored on occasion. Among his most memorable matches are a friendly against Pelé's Santos and one against Eusebio's Benfica, both played in 1972. He even led PSMS to a historic 4-2 win in a 1975 friendly match against Ajax.
