INFO:
A gifted footballer, his scoring qualities were undeniable. He was not too fast, he had an above average technique and dribbling, while he was good in the air. Schaer was an opportunistic & mobile striker (if he could, he would participate in every action of the team), who was often fed by playmaker Mésonès or Klose & Truffaut from the wings.

In 1977, the AJA was looking for an experienced centre-forward for Flesh out its attack. It was from Saint-Etienne that Jean-Marc Schaer arrived at Auxerre. He was regularly in the professional group and had even participated to part of the green epic in the European Cup in 1976. Its integration In the Auxerrois group has been perfect, he has been an essential pawn of the attack, his association with Serge Mésonès being a great success. With Auxerre he was a revelation, he played in the final of the Coupe de France in 1979 against Nantes. With the score tied 1-1, Schaer missed a clear scoring opportunity as he thought he was offside. Auxerre finally lost 4 goals to 1. The club was crowned champion of the second division the following year and reached the elite. The competition was tough for Schaer, who saw the rise of Polish striker Andrzej Szarmach, who would later become the top scorer in AJA's history. He then played in Nice, Valenciennes and Sète. He finished his career at Moulins, a division 4 club, in 1986.

Schaer was called up to the Olympic France team to compete in the 1976 Olympic Games. He played in four matches and scored two goals, against Mexico and Guatemala. The France team led by Michel Platini is eliminated in the quarterfinals of the tournament.
