INFO:
Strong, big, sturdy, not afraid, always wanting to win, mentally strong, high pain threshold. Terrible catching/clearing perception but an extremely good jump - strong keeper, good in duels, could cover a lot of the goal and narrow the angle, especially liked to go into the player.

Piet Schrijvers was a powerful goalkeeper, with the typical jersey number 7 (a lucky number) at Twente. He was 1.86 meters and weighed about 85 kilos at FC Twente '65. He controlled the penalty area like no other in his time, had good reflexes, was supreme in the air and an expert in a 1 on 1 situation. Schrijvers was an idol for many young fans. Tough, unyielding, strong and with reflexes that were reminiscent of a feline in its best years. If the opponent came through, then you knew that Piet was always there. Despite the total of 23 played European Cup matches for FC Twente'65, not all were successful according to the statistics below. Piet Schrijvers won 11 times with Twente, lost 10 and there were 2 draws. The number of goals he received is also remarkable, there were no fewer than 28. Schrijvers defended the goal of FC Twente for six seasons from 1968. During that period, the blonde helped set a remarkable record in 1971/72, where in 34 games, the Tukkers conceded only 13 goals with Schrijvers on the goal! After the successful 1973/74 season in which FC Twente narrowly missed out on the national title, his era in the club came to an end, even though he had all intentions not to leave the club!

As an Ajax player, he played the most international matches (34 out of 46). His number of stopped penalties is also remarkable. He stopped no less than 86 (!!!) in his Ajax period. Piet had his own strategy in stopping penalty kicks: a right-footed player usually shoots to the right of the keeper and a left-footed often the other way around, but your own appearance (and Piet had that) and a good reflex are needed to take the penalty.

During his FC Twente period, Piet Schrijvers was regularly invited for the national selections. Piet had quite a bit of competition for a place in the goal. Piet had to deal with competitors such as Jan van Beveren, Jan Jongbloed and Eddy Treytel. He played his first international match against Scotland in Amsterdam on December 1, 1971. The Netherlands won the game 2-1. In the end Piet came to 5 international matches in his Twente time. He also belonged to the World Cup 1974 squad under Rinus Michels, however Jan Jongbloed was preferred at the time. After the WC 1974, Ajax was not satisfied with Heinz Stuy and looked at Schrijvers as a long-term replacement. There, he played for nine seasons, gained even more national and international fame and became 5x national champion and acquired the legendary nickname - "de beer van de Meer" and less pleasant nicknames such as "de Bolle van Zwolle" and "het Lek van PEC".

As I wrote in the "Info" section, he was a strong and endurable keeper who had an extremely good jump considering his size. He would literally jump into the player or throw himself from his goal like he was jumping into a pool, players were intimidated of him & his runs from the goal. Excellent in narrowing the angle and covering the whole goal. Seemed slow but his acceleration was pretty admirable. His strongest area was definitely 1on1 duels and penalties (He stopped 86 penalties in Ajax!). He was a master in the penalty area, with fantastic reflexes. It was actually unbelievable how quickly he would raise from the ground and react in general during his Ajax years when he was at 95kg.

Obviously over the years his jumping ability reduced (due to gaining weight) and his reflexes were affected by it too. His main weakness was catching & clearing, he was constantly punching the ball and often misinterpreting and missing the crosses. In Twente, he was a typical line keeper and he didn't coach his defense. That was completely different later at Ajax - you could trust Piet's directions blindly.

Main points to address were:

- Defence: I don't think he's in the range of Zenga, Zubizaretta and better than Hellstrom, Ravelli, Seaman... 95 seems awfully high - as discussed above, his defense skills were much higher in his Ajax era.

- Jump: Comparing to the GKs of similar size and style, I think in both sets it should be in the 80-85 range, I mean his leaps were amazing for his size

- Response: Again, his response reduced over the course of years, but higher than 84 for sure

- Goalkeeper skills: Surely the #1 goalkeeper in the National Team (thanks to Van Beveren) should have a higher value than 81. I think that in his Ajax and Euro 76/WC 78 years he was a top goalkeeper, but considering his flaws I wouldn't go in the orange zone.

Also, this set is literally identical to the one from the mundialito1981 forum, and I saw many overblown sets there...

There owner of that forum (who was banned here) copied various stats from our and Magic's forum and posted them under his name in that forum. Good thing that it's pretty to recognize which sets are copied because those are the realistic ones, the rest are random and overblown sets.
He even tried to advertise his forum here and was actually angry after we weren't like "Oh you took our work and posted in your name - that's fantastic!". People like him are the reason why we have hidden section..

Thanks Gurke, good to know that. Although, I would have probably guessed it, as it's a similar thing to some other forums as well :)
