INFOS:

The case of George Connelly is one of the biggest mysteries in the history of Scottish football. He was considered one of the most talented players the country has ever produced, often compared to Franz Beckenbauer, equally comfortable in midfield and in defence. And yet, he suffered from crippling shyness and depression that led him to frequently walk away from football for weeks at a time, and eventually led to his retirement at the age of only 27, having barely played in the 2 years before that. Connelly was an impressive player, standing out immediately for his elegant style of play. His technique oozed class and he was also known for his precise long passing abilities, along with his positioning and intelligence. He lacked a bit of pace but with his strong defensive skills it didn't hold him back much. With such a complete set of skills he was tipped to take over from Billy McNeill as Celtic's captain and leader. However, after winning the 1973 Player of the Year in Scotland, his career went into a sharp decline because of his off field issues. This only got worse after the club sold his best friend Davie Hay in 1974. Connelly was a reserved and quiet person which didn't match with the squad at the time which was full of big personalities like Jimmy Johnstone and Lou Macari. The full truth is not known to Celtic fans but the outcome was that Connelly simply disappeared from the club several times. After the 5th walk out, in 1975, he never returned. Apart from a 3 month stint with Falkirk in 1976, his career was over. To this day, Celtic fans are left to question and mourn what could have been one of the greatest players in Scottish history.

Updated a little bit, including changing his main position. It was difficult to decide whether he was more natural in midfield or at sweeper but since he won the Player of the Year award while largely playing in the defence I've gone for CWP as main position.
