Prestanti was a centre back. He spent the majority of his career at Vicenza from 1975 to 1979, playing 145 matches and scoring 7 goals, 3 of them in the legendary 1978-79 Serie A. Then, he had good seasons at Pescara from 1979 to 1982, playing 92 games and scoring 4 times. He played also for Fiorentina, Sangiovannese, Arezzo, Catania, Lecce, Monopoli and Fasano. He retired in 1988.
Prestanti was a strong defender, the one in charge to mark the most dangerous opposing striker. His tougness though often led to a faul in the penalty area. He showed to have a good anticipation ability, even against great strikers like Roberto Bettega. He seemed to have a bit of troubles against more technical forwards like Alessandro Altobelli, Salvatore Bagni or Bruno Giordano. He was a very able header, gifted with a good leap, and he occasionally tried to shoot with a powerful long range. For these reasons he was allowed to leave the defence and push forward. During his career he also scored some own goals. Probably not bad in terms of technique, in a match against Catanzaro in 1978 he scored with a powerful volley inside the box after stopping the ball with the head and using his strength to avoid the defenders stop him.
