Gasparini was a decent centre back. As a youngster he spent five seasons at Brescia from 1969 to 1974 before playing a season at Hellas Verona and eventually joining Inter. He wasn't a first choice for the Nerazzurri but he still played 94 matches in three seasons. He had his best time at Ascoli, appearing in 150 games from 1978 to 1983. He retired in 1986 after three seasons at Monza.
Gasparini wasn't an imposing defender but he constantly marked his opponent with strength for the entire match, doing so in a fair way. He had good anticipation ability that sometimes made him effective against dinamic players. However he was more able against slow and static strikers because he wasn't very fast and sometimes moved in complex and illogical ways. He didn't use to push forward and he scored, in fact, only once while playing at Ascoli. His single goal though was a nice one: a volley after turning his body. Not too very consistent, he didn't find his place at Inter and had more success in a smaller club like Ascoli.
