INFO:
One of the most gifted players in Scottish history. Davie Cooper was a Rangers legend and one of the most talented players of his generation, gifted with phenomenal footwork and trickery. Although he was lazy, completely one footed and not very quick for a winger, Cooper was the sort of player that could win a match on his own with only a few touches of the ball. His brilliant crossing and vision meant he could carve open defences, and his brilliance from free kicks and corners was a constant source of danger. But by far the thing that stood out about Cooper was his close control. Using only his left foot, the ball was stuck to him like glue, keeping the ball tantalisingly out of reach of defenders. Even with his lack of raw pace, he could just dance past the opposition and whip in a beautiful cross or slip a clever pass behind the defence. His most famous goal came in 1979 against Celtic, considered by many to be one of the greatest solo goals in history; he flicked the ball up and chipped it over three defenders before finishing. His ability was acclaimed by any who played with or against him: Ruud Gullit in particular called him one of the best players he'd ever seen and named him in his all-time XI. He also earned the reputation of being "moody" for refusing to speak to the press; in reality he was just a private person, but this didn't stop him from being christened "The Moody Blue".

Davie Cooper died at the age of only 39 from a brain haemorrhage while filming a training video while playing for Clydebank. His tragic death at a young age only adds to the legend of one of Scotland's greatest talents.
