Fenwick was a centre back who played mostly for Queens Park Rangers between 1980 and 1987, appearing in 308 matches and scoring 45 goals. He was occasionally used as side-back or midfielder in front of the defence when needed. He played also for Crystal Palace, Tottenham Hotspur, Leicester City and Swindon Town where he retired in 1995. He gained 20 caps for England, being part of the 1986 FIFA World Cup squad.
Considered one of the fastest centre backs at the time, Fenwick was a good no non-sense defender, a hard tackler and great header, quick when intercepting the ball and effective when making clearances. Gifted with nice basic technique, he liked to go a bit forward and distribute the ball or acting from the back, especially with pinpoint passes. He was dangerous inside the opposing penalty box during dead-ball situations but he was also a good penalty taker. Sadly, he is also remembered for having passed the ball to Maradona when the Argentinian scored the legendary Mano de Dios during Argentina vs England at the 1986 FIFA World Cup. He could've gained more international caps but unfortunately he often wasn't saw as good as he was.
