Pat (or Packie) Bonner is a goalkeeper considered a legend of both Celtic and Ireland. With Celtic he was a one-club man and made a huge 646 appearances, the most of any goalkeeper. But he's probably most remembered as one of the stars of Ireland's golden generation of the late 80s and early 90s. He had many important moments during those years, like an excellent performance in Ireland's famous win over England at Euro 1988, and saving the decisive penalty to put his team through to the quarter final over Romania at the 1990 World Cup. Bonner was a very good goalkeeper, commanding and determined, strong in one-on-one situations and quick to come off his line. His huge kicks were also a big part of Ireland's direct style of play, in fact both of Ireland's goals at the 1990 World Cup came after he kicked it to the edge of the opponent's penalty box. His main weaknesses were some handling errors on more powerful shots and sometimes being bad on defending crosses. With Celtic he won 4 league titles although his peak years were during a difficult period for the club.
