Khalil Allawi ─ older brother of Karim Allawi ─ is a former right or left back, who could play also as centre back. His career began in 1976 at Al-Amana. He then played for Al-Tayaran, Al-Rasheed, Al-Shorta, Al-Shabab, Al-Karkh and Al-Khutoot, retiring in 1995. He gained 81 caps for Iraq, scoring twice, taking part to the 1984 Olympics and 1986 FIFA World Cup ─ where he played as right back.
Allawi was a good and fast defender as well as tough tackler. He could use both feet and made a lot of ball distribution. He delivered short and through passes as much as crosses or pinpoint passes and also took corners. While his short balls usually were accurate, the long ones had speed but very rarely accuracy and missed the target. He also could make good long throws with the hands. He occasionally pushed forward to try shooting on goal.
