Thomas Augustinussen is a legendary Aalborg midfielder, he played 420 games for the club. He was captain of the team when they won the league and cup double in the 2013/14 season, and also during their run to the last 16 of the UEFA Cup in 08/09. Augustinussen was a defensive midfielder, standing out for his great height. Because of his size he was difficult to dribble around, and he occupied the space in the middle of the park just in front of the defence, which often forced the opponents to go out wide to penetrate AaB's defence. He mostly used his good positional discipline to break up attacks because he lacked pace which made him unsuited to chasing the ball around too much, he would wait for the attackers to come to him. He was technically quite limited and wasn't usually tasked with bringing the ball forward, although he could make some nice short passes through the lines on occasion. Having started his career as a striker, he maintained a pretty decent scoring record for a pure defensive midfielder. In addition to his long career with AaB, he also played 3 times for the Denmark national team.
