He played as defensive midfielder and centre back, and occassionally was used even as a sweeper, he covered a large part of a pitch and was in charge of protecting behind Balakov and Lechkov, as well as organizing attacks from behind. Yankov was born on June 7, 1966 in Grudovo. He played as a defender and defensive midfielder for Strandja, petrochemicals, Chernomorets, Levski (Sofia), Lokomotiv (Sofia), Kameno Real (Valladolid, Spain), Bayer (Uerdingen, Germany) and Turkish Besiktas (Istanbul), Adanaspor (Adana) , and Vanspor Genchlerbirligi (Ankara). Champion of Bulgaria in 1993, 1994 and 1995 with Levski (Sofia). Winner of the national cup in 1991, 1992 and 1994 with Levski (Sofia). In group "A" has 240 matches and 26 goals. For the club played 12 games and has scored 5 goals in the Cup and 10 matches with 1 goal in European tournaments (4 games and 1 goal for the Cup, 4 games to SSC and 2 games for the UEFA Cup), there are 2 games in Chernomorets SSC. For the Bulgaria national team debut ed on October 17, 1986 v Romania (Bucharest), has 79 games and 4 goals.
