Dennis Lota was a Zambian striker. He's considered one of the best Zambian strikers and is remembered fondly by Orlando Pirates fans who nicknamed him "Chesa Mpama" (Hot Slap). Lota was a poacher who constantly tried to make runs behind the defence. He was fast and tricky, excellent at feints and body swerves, he could just shake his hips and turn past defenders very quickly. He was also an excellent finisher, particularly good at shooting low and hard into the bottom corners. He was a small and weak striker though who could be stopped with physical defending, and his first touch was inconsistent although he had pretty good close control when dribbling. He also barely participated in the game beyond his attacking runs, always positioning himself as far forward as possible, so when he didn't get service he could be invisible for long periods of a game. But if you could get the ball to him, he was a clinical striker with a natural ability to score goals. Lota scored 21 goals in 78 games for Zambia and played in 4 AFCON tournaments, scoring 3 at the 1996 tournament (including in the quarter and semi final) where Zambia finished 3rd. Unfortunately he passed away in 2014 at the age of only 40 due to malaria.
