INFO:
Kaviedes was a centre forward. His career began in 1995 but got a sudden rise when he scored 43 goals in 39 league matches during the 1998 season. In total, he scored 49 goals in 63 games with the club. Becoming the world's top scorer in all leagues, his immediate fame convinced Perugia's president Luciano Gaucci to buy him. Unfortunately his downfall was already began. He player for many more teams, including Celta de Vigo, Real Valladolid, Porto, Crystal Palace and Argentinos Juniors but never had the same success again. Moreover, he was mostly known for his adventures outside of the pitch. He had a very good season in 2007, when he played for El Nacional and scored 15 goals in 44 matches. He gained 57 caps for Ecuador and scored 17 goals, the most important being in 2001 in a 1-1 draw against Uruguay that allowed his national team to participate for the first time to a FIFA World Cup. The striker retired from professional football in 2014.
Kaviedes proved in his most prolific season to be a complete forward. Nicknamed el Nine and el Flaco, he didn't have a very strong physique. He possessed though good speed, remarkable control of the ball and dribbling ability, incredible sense of goal, great timing in the box and a fantastic first time touch. He wasn't too strong in the air but he still could deliver accurate headers. He was right-footed but effective with the left as well and could use the outside properly. He occasionally took free kicks, showing good ability also in that aspect. His shots usually were well-placed but he also scored a few goal with powerful strikes while his volleys and bicycle kicks were especially spectacular. Throughout the years, he proved to have also a fine vision of the game and passing ability. He kept showing these characteristics throughout his career but his condition and consistency were never even near to those he had in the 1998 season.
