INFO:

Mohammed Al-Khilaiwi was a Saudi Arabian defender and part of their best ever generation in the early to mid 90s. He was a quick and aggressive defender that had somewhat shaky positioning but liked to throw himself into last-ditch tackles and sometimes acted like a sweeper behind his defensive partners. He had below average passing ability although he didn't lose the ball too often, and wasn't strong in the air so was often paired with a more aerially adept defender like Madani or Zubromawi. Unfortunately the defence was definitely Saudi Arabia's weak point in that era and they very often looked disorganised at the back; Al-Khilaiwi's pace and quick reflexes helped them in these situations but his poor marking abilities and lack of height and strength meant he was sometimes targeted by more physical strikers, such as Sweden's Martin Dahlin and Kennet Andersson. He was also sent off against France at the 1998 World Cup. Regardless, he is currently the 13th most capped footballer of all time with 163 caps, and considered a legend of Saudi football.

Al-Khilaiwi sadly passed away in 2013 at the age of only 41 from a heart defect.
