INFO:

Chris Sutton is an English striker best remembered for his times at Blackburn and Celtic. A physical and combative player, he had excellent heading abilities, and was noted for his ability to cover in other positions, especially at centre back, the position he started his career at Norwich in and also his position for England U21s. Despite being a prolific scorer himself, his career was mainly overshadowed by his famous strike partners, Alan Shearer (with whom he won the Premier League title at Blackburn) and Henrik Larsson. His contribution was very important though and he did a lot of the dirty work that made his teammates profit, while also scoring in important matches himself. He has an abrasive personality that led him to sometimes fall out with teammates, the opposition and the media, although his ability to unsettle defenders by winding them up often proved effective. Sutton was not the quickest or most technically gifted player, but his physicality, heading ability and versatility made him one of the most prolific and productive strikers in England for much of the 90s.

INFO:

During this era Sutton became one of the most loved Celtic players of the 21st century, forming a fantastic partnership with Henrik Larsson and scoring many important and iconic goals against Rangers and in European matches against the likes of Barcelona, Juventus and Ajax. His hold-up play had improved since his time at Blackburn and he had matured as a player, making smarter decisions and channelling his natural aggression more productively. His heading ability was as fantastic as ever, still being able to head the ball as hard as he could kick it, and he started scoring some more spectacular goals than before, including a famous last minute winner with a superb chip over Stefan Klos in an Old Firm derby in 2004. He also added to his game the ability to play in central midfield, often to allow Larsson to partner John Hartson up front since Celtic had the wonderful problem of having three excellent and prolific strikers at the time. All three strikers would win the Scottish Player of the Year award in his time at the club. Sutton was also a very important part of the Celtic team that reached the 2003 UEFA Cup final, scoring against Stuttgart and former club Blackburn along the way and playing all 120 minutes in the final as Celtic lost 3-2. He will always be fondly remembered amongst Celtic fans for his many iconic goals and witty, often controversial quotes.
