INFOS:

Erik Hoftun is legendary Rosenborg player. He's considered by many as Rosenborg's greatest ever defender. Hoftun was a key player during great Rosenborg European adventures in the 90's. He changed several partners in the heart of the defense, and he made everyone of them look better on the pitch. He was specialist at reading the game, he anticipated opponent's movement very well. In addition to that, he was tough defender. He also commanded the defense line, often positioning behind as a sweeper. He always started the attack from the defensive line, and often took the ball to opposition's half. He possessed decent technical skills, he was good with the ball in his feet, able to beat few opponents before delivering a pass to his teammate. He liked to join the attack on regular basis, and try to organize actions and did it elegantly. That playing style resulted in many assists provided to his teammates. He also took free kicks, mostly from long distances, because he possessed a powerful shot. His main flaw was his speed. He was very slow player, especially when it comes to sprinting. He covered that flaw with great positioning, but when a player is too fast, neither that could help. For a quality player as he was, he only played in 30 games for Norway. Egil Olsen didn't appreciated much his qualities, so his career in NT lasted for only 5 years. After missing Euro 2000 because of injury, few years later Hoftun retired willingly from the NT, choosing to focus on his club career.
