INFO:Ahmed Shobeir is considered one of the most prominent goalkeepers in Egyptian football history. Born in Tanta in 1960, he began his career at Tanta SC before moving to Al Ahly SC in 1984. He successfully established himself as Al Ahly's starting goalkeeper after intense competition with top-tier keepers, launching an illustrious 17-year career with the club. During this period, he made 222 appearances and won 25 domestic, continental, and regional titles, including eight Egyptian Premier League titles and eight Egypt Cups. He also earned several individual awards and was selected among Africa's best players in the late 1980s.On the international stage, he earned 107 caps with the Egyptian national team, notably helping them qualify for the 1990 FIFA World Cup in Italy. His participation in the 1990 World Cup became widely famous due to the match against Ireland, which later contributed to changing the back-pass rule to the goalkeeper. After retiring, he transitioned into sports media, achieving great success as a TV presenter and commentator. He also ventured into administration and politics, holding positions in the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) and being elected as a member of the Egyptian Parliament. His football legacy continues through his son, Mostafa Shobeir, who currently plays as a goalkeeper for Al Ahly and the Egyptian Olympic team. Ultimately, Ahmed Shobair remains an influential figure who successfully bridged the worlds of sports, media, and administration in the history of Egyptian sports. Shobeir was distinguished by his narrowing of angles, although he occasionally made timing errors when coming out to collect crosses, which caused some defensive issues.
