INFO:

Jurj Mukhtar, nicknamed “The Sheikh of Goalkeepers,” is regarded as one of the legends of Syrian football who helped forge its glory in the 1960s and 1970s while wearing the jerseys of Al-Hasakah Club and the national team. His name became prominent in the 1976 Quneitra Cup final (Arab Championship), when he saved a crucial penalty kick against the Bahrain national team, helping the Syrian team win the match. He was distinguished by his massive physical build and towering height, which granted him complete command of the penalty area and made him an impenetrable barrier against even the strongest attackers. He possessed quick reflexes and high technical skill, enabling him to protect the den of Syria national team with brilliance and authority in numerous international competitions. Known for his influential leadership on the pitch, he left behind, after his passing, a footballing legacy that continues to inspire younger generations of goalkeepers.

Some Syrian fans say he was about two meters tall or thereabouts, but it is generally agreed that he was a giant goalkeeper for his time, and attackers were afraid to approach him. He was also taller than many public figures of that era.
