Although originally from Rio de Janeiro, Luisinho began his football career in São Paulo. He began playing for Anglo-Brasileiro in 1928, where he remained until the following year, when he also signed for Paulistano.
He was part of São Paulo's first team, where he remained from 1930 to 1934. After the club's brief demise, he moved to Clube Atlético Estudantes de São Paulo (a club founded by former São Paulo members) in 1935, even becoming a player for the Brazilian national team, having been called up for the 1934 World Cup.
In 1936, he began his career with Palestra Italia (now Palmeiras), where he would remain until 1940. He was again called up for the 1938 World Cup. In 1941, he returned to São Paulo, where he remained until 1946, the year he completed his career. With the Tricolor, Luisinho won four state titles.
