He was one of the most talented players of the famous Hajduk Split generation, which legendary coach Luka Kaliterna led to two national championship titles, in 1927 and 1929. In 1926, he played his centenary match for Split's "Bili" team.

He played as a left midfielder. He also spent time in France, with Olympique de Marseille. He ended his football career quite young. He graduated from the Faculty of Economics in Zagreb.

With one cap for the B team in 1928, he played eight matches and scored two goals for the Yugoslavian national team. He made his debut on September 28, 1924, in a 2-0 win against Czechoslovakia, in which ten Hajduk players participated. He scored two goals, both against Romania. The first on 10 May 1927 in Bucharest and the second on 4 May 1930 in Zagreb. He said goodbye to the national team on 25 October 1931 in a friendly match against Poland (3:6) in Poznań.

- Igrao je levu polutku i kao odličan tehničar i dobar strelac, ostao je u sećanjima posebno po elegantnim pokretima i dosta gracioznoj igri. Jedno vreme je igrao i u Francuskoj za Olympique de Marseille i dosta rano se povukao iz fudbala. Diplomirao je na Ekonomskom fakultetu u Zagrebu.

- Igrao je na lijevom krilu, posjedovao je izvrsne tehničke vještine, bio je izvrstan šuter, a tadašnji navijači pamtili su ga, između ostalog, po elegantnoj i profinjenoj igri. Godine 1931. potpisao je za Olympique de Marseille, francuski klub, gdje je igrao do 1933., godine kada je završio igračku karijeru. Trajno se nastanio u Zagrebu, gdje je na Sveučilištu u Zagrebu stekao magisterij iz ekonomije.

- Mirko Bonačić (1903 - 1989), kapiten prve šampionske generacije Hajduka za koji je, igrajući na poziciji halfa ili polutke upisao 203 utakmice i postigao 157 golova! Šest puta reprezentativac Kraljevine Jugoslavije, strelac tri gola u nacionalnom dresu.

- Kratko vrijeme nastupao za zagrebački Građanski te za Olimpique iz Marseillea. Bio je velik ljubimac navijača koji su ga obožavali jer je izravno napadao protivnička vrata. Inspirirani Bonačićevim načinom igre, čelnici franc. kluba su u klupski grb upisali droit au but (izravno u mrežu).

Bon technicien et bon tireur, il tente l'aventure en France, à l'Olympique de Marseille à l'été 1928. Il joue peu pendant la saison du fait d'aller-retour à Zagreb, mais participe à la finale du championnat du Sud-Est face au FC Sète, battu 3-0 le 30 mars 1929. Il ne joue par contre que le premier match de la phase finale du championnat de France remporté par les Marseillais dans la foulée.
