Muzzy Izzet was a Turkish international midfielder best known for his long spell at Leicester City in the Premier League during the late 1990s and early 2000s. After starting out at Chelsea, he made his name when he joined Leicester in 1996, where he became a central figure under Martin O’Neill. Izzet was part of the Foxes’ golden era, helping the club to win two League Cups (1997 and 2000) and establish themselves as a competitive top-flight side. He also earned 9 caps for Turkey, including being part of the squad that reached the semi-finals of the 2002 FIFA World Cup. Later in his career, he moved to Birmingham City, but recurring knee injuries curtailed his impact and eventually forced him into retirement in 2006.

As a player, Izzet was a technically gifted central midfielder with a high work rate and excellent passing range. He was also known for his exceptionally good header, effortless close control, and willingness to take on tougher opponents with composure. Martin O’Neill himself praised Izzet’s inner strength and courage, calling him “two-footed and always beautifully balanced,” and highlighted his clever balance of physical grit and technical elegance, saying he was “capable of extricating himself from difficult positions and then gliding past opponents”. He never hesitated to finish with his 1st time shot or header. His set-piece delivery was also a key strength, with precise corners and free kicks contributing to many goals for Leicester. Izzet’s blend of creativity, grit, and consistency made him a well-rounded box-to-box midfielder who could influence both defensive phases and attacking transitions.
