INFO:
Sergio Navarro is a former Chilean footballer who played as a left-back. Born in Santiago, Chile (20/02/1936), in 1952, he was playing roller hockey at Ferrobádminton until his brother-in-law invited him to join a football team. He became a member of the Osvaldo Poblete club, where Luis Álamos, the coach of Universidad de Chile in 1953, invited him to join the club's youth team. In 1955, he made his debut for "La U" in a match against Palestino, which they won 5-4. Throughout his career at Universidad de Chile, he won the Championships in 1959, 1962, and 1964, and finished as runner-up in 1957, 1961, and 1963. He also represented the Chilean National Team during this period in the 1962 World Cup, serving as captain, playing in 4 out of 6 matches as a starter, and achieving a historic third place. He was selected between 1957 and 1962, playing 42 matches in official and friendly games, participating in World Cup qualifiers against Argentina and Bolivia for the 1958 World Cup, as well as in the Copa O'Higgins against Brazil and on the national team's European tour. In 1961, during a match against Peru, he was named captain of the national team. His last match for the national team was a Copa Carlos Dittborn match against Argentina in Buenos Aires (0-1) in 1962, leaving a record of 31 official matches in five years. Sergio Navarro is considered the best left-back in the history of Universidad de Chile, and one of the best the country has ever produced, along with Antonio Arias and Isaac Carrasco.
