Antonio Arias is a former Chilean footballer who played as a left-back. Born in Santiago, Chile (09/10/1944), Arias went through all the youth divisions at Club Deportivo Magallanes alongside his six brothers, initially playing as a left forward. He made his professional debut in 1965 against Unión La Calera, stepping in as a left-back after Juan Pérez's injury, a position he would never abandon afterward. During his time at Magallanes, he earned his first call-up to the National Team in 1968 on a tour to Peru and Mexico. Before the start of the 1969 season, Antonio Arias was signed by Unión Española, where he flourished under the management of Sergio Navarro and Luis Santibáñez, winning three national titles and finishing as a runner-up in the 1975 Copa Libertadores. In late 1979, he was transferred to C.D. Palestino, where he decided to end his highly successful professional career in 1980. While he never scored for the national team, Arias earned 31 caps for the Chilean national football team between 1968 and 1977, participating in four World Cup qualifying matches and three matches in the final phase of the 1974 FIFA World Cup.

Antonio Arias is regarded as Chile's best-ever left-back, having been part of Chile's best defense in the 1974 World Cup. He was an outstanding and very sober full-back, specializing in man-to-man marking and defensive duties, displaying also great skill and determination. Although not extremely offensive-minded, he would swiftly and surprisingly join the attack, with his signature move being early crosses into the box from the left flank. Despite his speed, he admitted to struggling against fast wingers but excelled against skillful or dribbling opponents, thanks to his excellent anticipation and ability to read the opponent's offensive play or recover loose balls. Individually, Arias was once honored as Chile's Best Player in 1974 and is considered the greatest idol of Unión Española, where he played over 300 matches in a decade.
