INFO:
Claudio Morel Rodríguez is a retired Paraguayan footballer who played as a left-back or central defender. Born in Asunción, Paraguay (02/02/1978), at the age of 3, he had to move to Argentina with his father, the renowned former player of the Paraguayan National Team, Eugenio Morel. He made his professional debut in 1998 for C.A. San Lorenzo, one of the clubs where his father played. At San Lorenzo, he won a Copa Mercosur, a Copa Sudamericana, and a Torneo Clausura, while also establishing himself as an important player for his national team. In 2004, he moved to Boca Juniors, where he spent his best years as a professional: after a slow start where he began as a starter but lost ground, by the second half of 2006, following Juan Krupoviesa's injury, Morel Rodríguez regained his place in the team, being a starter in almost every game and showing a high level, both as a central defender or as a full-back. In 2007, Morel would win the Copa Libertadores with Boca Juniors, being the only player from the team to play every game of the tournament, and that same year he was selected as the second-best footballer in South America. In 2008, he won the Apertura being one of the defensive pillars, playing as a left-back and was once again named in the Ideal Team of America (in addition to winning the award for the best Paraguayan player of the year). By 2010, due to an institutional crisis, Boca Juniors decided to part ways with club legends such as Hugo Ibarra, Federico Insúa, Juan Krupoviesa, and Morel himself, so in August of that year, he signed for Deportivo La Coruña, marking his first (and only) experience in European football. In 2012, he moved to C.A. Independiente, in Argentina, where he was part of the infamous team that was relegated to the Second Division for the first time in the club's history. In 2014, he returned to his native Paraguay to play for Sol de América, and the following year, at the age of 37, he retired from professional football while playing for Club 12 de Octubre.

Morel Rodríguez has been capped for the Paraguayan national football team. He made his debut on November 3, 1999, against Bolivia. With Tata Martino's appointment as coach, he gained consistency in call-ups, being almost ever-present and becoming the team's starting left-back. He participated in the 2007 Copa América held in Venezuela, starting in the games, and was also part of the qualifiers for the 2002 and 2010 World Cups. Claudio Morel Rodríguez had his only World Cup experience in South Africa in 2010, playing 480 minutes (all possible) at a good level and leading Paraguay to the quarter-finals. He is a left-footed player who can play as a central defender, left-back, central midfielder, or left midfielder. He was known for his excellent free-kick and corner-kick ability.
