INFO:
Miguel Pinto is a Chilean footballer who plays as a goalkeeper. Born in Talagante, Región Metropolitana (04/07/1983), he started his professional career at Universidad de Chile in 2002. His professional debut came in a derby against Colo-Colo since starting goalkeeper Sergio Vargas was injured and the first substitute, Johnny Herrera got sent off the game before. After being on the bench in the years 2003, 2004, and 2005, and following Johnny Herrera's departure to Corinthians in Brazil, he took over as the starting goalkeeper for his team in the 2006 Apertura tournament. From that championship onwards, he became well known for his distinctive shirts (in José Luis Chilavert's style). In 2007, he had great performances, making him the best U de Chile player of the season. After Marcelo Salas retired, he became the first captain of the blue team. In the 2008/09 season, Pinto established himself as the best goalkeeper in Chilean football, with spectacular performances that earned him, among many other things, the awards for Best Goalkeeper of the Chilean Championship, the Golden Ball of the Chilean Championship, Best Goalkeeper of the Copa Sudamericana, and, of course, Best Goalkeeper of South America. At the end of 2010, he was transferred to Club Atlas, in Guadalajara, Mexico, where he remained until 2015 with very irregular performances, which eventually led him to be loaned to Correcaminos de la UAT and Cafetaleros de Tapachula (currently Cafetaleros de Chiapas), both clubs in the Mexican Second Division. On June 17, 2016, Pinto's transfer to O'Higgins of the Chilean First Division was officially announced, following goalkeeper Jorge Carranza's departure. After three seasons with the Rancagua team, in December 2019, he was announced as a new player for Colo-Colo, where he played only six games until he was bought by Unión Española in 2021 to be the starting goalkeeper. In December 2022, he signed as a goalkeeper for Coquimbo Unido, the club where he still remains today at 40 years old, although he has only been able to play two games since then.

Pinto has been a Chilean international 21 times. He made his debut for the national team on April 27, 2006, in a friendly against New Zealand, winning the match 1-0, then participated in a tour of the Chilean national team in 2006 in Europe, playing a friendly match against Ivory Coast, ending in a 1-1 draw. He also participated in a friendly for the so-called Pacific Cup 2006 played in Viña del Mar against Peru, where they won 3-2. For the 2007 Copa America in Venezuela, he refused to go as the 3rd goalkeeper. He participated as the No. 1 goalkeeper in the tour to Asia, leaving Cristopher Toselli on the bench, playing in the 0-0 draw against South Korea and the 1-0 victory against Japan. In January 2009, he played in a friendly against Honduras, played in the United States, losing 2-0, and another in August against Denmark, winning 2-1 in Copenhagen. During those years, Marcelo Bielsa constantly called him up for the qualifiers for the 2010 FIFA World Cup as the second goalkeeper of the team behind captain Claudio Bravo, qualifying for the World Cup with the team. Pinto was called up for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, where Chile was eliminated in the round of 16 by Brazil. In 2011, he was called up by Claudio Borghi for a friendly against Estonia, where he was subbed on in the second half, with Chile winning 4-0. He made his debut in the 2011 Copa America in the group stage on July 12, defeating Peru 1-0. His team was eventually eliminated from the Copa America in the quarterfinals by Venezuela. In 2012, he returned to play in the qualifiers for the 2014 FIFA World Cup after goalkeeper Claudio Bravo's injury, playing in the defeats against Ecuador and Argentina by 2-1 and 3-1, respectively. His last call-up to the national team was on September 2, 2016, for the double qualifying match for the 2018 FIFA World Cup when they faced Paraguay and Bolivia, without playing in either of these matches.
