INFO:
José Saturnino Cardozo is a retired Paraguayan footballer who played as a center-forward. Born in Nueva Italia, Departamento Central (19/03/1971), he began his career at Club River Plate in his native Paraguay, making his professional debut in 1988. In 1990, Saturnino moved to Switzerland to continue his professional career at FC St. Gallen, the country's oldest club. He then returned to Latin America, specifically Chile, to join Club Deportivo Universidad Católica in the Chilean Primera División. In 1994, he moved to Mexico to join Club Deportivo Toluca, where he suffered an injury shortly after his arrival. However, Toluca's management showed patience, which paid off as Cardozo became a 4-time champion with the team and the all-time top scorer with 249 goals. He currently holds the record for most goals scored in a short tournament with 29 in total (more than 10 goals ahead of his closest competitor). He played for 10 years at Toluca, becoming the club's greatest idol and best-ever player. For the choriceros, Saturnino won the 1998, 1999, 2000, and 2002 First Division titles, and the 2003 Champion of Champions Cup, in addition to being four times Mexican First Division's top goal-scorer, in 1999, 2000, 2002 and 2003. Saturnino is the second-highest-scoring foreigner in Liga MX after Brazilian Cabinho, and FIFA considers him the twelfth-best player of all time in Mexican football. He also played briefly for Cruz Azul in 2001 and Pachuca in 2005 as an express reinforcement to play the Copa Libertadores. In 2005, after a year filled with injuries, he signed for C.A. San Lorenzo de Almagro in Argentina. In mid-2006, he was set to join the Uruguayan team Club Atlético Peñarol, but due to various factors, this move did not materialize. In November of that year, José Saturnino Cardozo decided to retire from professional football at the age of 35 and later became the head coach of Club Olimpia in Paraguay.

José Saturnino Cardozo is the Paraguayan footballer with the most goals scored ever, with 415 goals scored throughout his career, surpassing players like Óscar Cardozo and the legendary Arsenio Erico, his closest competitors. Cardozo was named Paraguayan Footballer of the Year three times, in 2000, 2002, and 2003. He was included in the Ideal Team of America three times, in 2002, 2003 and 2004, and in 2002 was awarded South American Footballer of the Year, an unusual achievement as he won this award while playing in the Mexican League (the first player to achieve this feat). In 2003, the IFFHS named him the top scorer of the year in First Division leagues, with 58 goals during the calendar year. Pepe Cardozo has been capped internationally for the Paraguay national football team, making his debut on June 14, 1991, in a match against Bolivia for the Copa Paz del Chaco, held at the Ramón Tahuichi Aguilera Stadium in Santa Cruz, which Paraguay won 1-0. Until 2006, he played 82 matches for the Paraguayan national team, scoring a total of 25 goals. Playing for Paraguay, he won the silver medal at the Athens 2004 Olympic Games. He also held the honor of being Paraguay's all-time leading scorer with 25 goals until he was surpassed by Roque Santa Cruz.
