In the second half of 2014, he was transferred to C.A. Lanús, where he established himself as one of the pillars of the defense, standing out and becoming a key player in winning the 2016 Primera División title for the
garnets. In 2016, Gustavo Gómez took an important step in his career due to his outstanding performances both in his clubs and in the Paraguay national team. That year, he signed a contract with the prestigious A.C. Milan, becoming a historic signing as he was the first Paraguayan player to join the ranks of the Milan club. In 2018, after a failed signing for Boca Juniors, Gómez arrived at S.E. Palmeiras at the hand of the historic Luiz Felipe Scolari. At the
Verdão he would become one of the best defenders in the extensive history of the Brazilian giant, winning two Copa Libertadores, three Brasileirão, a Copa do Brasil, a Brazilian Super Cup, and a Recopa Sudamericana, in addition to numerous individual distinctions such as being chosen in the Ideal Eleven of America on 4 consecutive occasions and being named on two occasions as one of the 3 best players on the continent.
Gómez is a right-footed center-back; he is strong and can act as a right-back depending on the game's needs. He is 1.85 m tall and has a good physique, not too slow in his movements despite his size.
