Defence-MindedINFO:Martín Campaña is a Uruguayan footballer who plays as a goalkeeper. Born in San Fernando de Maldonado (29/05/1989), he began his career in the youth ranks of Deportivo Maldonado, with which he made his professional debut in 2007 at the age of 18, playing in the Uruguayan Second Division. In 2008, he played for one semester at C.A. Atenas and then signed for Cerro Largo FC, where he played from 2008 to 2010, before joining Racing Club de Montevideo for one season. For the Apertura 2011, he returned to Cerro Largo, where he had a historic season, finishing in 4th place in the Uruguayan Championship 2011/12, qualifying for the 2012 Copa Sudamericana. In 2013, he moved to Defensor Sporting. In the 2012-13 season, he won the Torneo Apertura and was awarded the Best Goalkeeper of the Year. In 2016, he joined C.A. Independiente and quickly became the starting goalkeeper, winning the affection of the fans. He won the Copa Sudamericana 2017 under the command of Ariel Holan, as the starting goalkeeper and with a great level, saving a key penalty in the quarterfinals against Atlético Tucumán to reach the semifinals and subsequently win the title against Flamengo at the legendary Maracanã Stadium in Rio de Janeiro. In addition, in that tournament, Campaña reached 615 minutes without conceding a goal in the Copa Sudamericana, setting a historic international record. In 2018, he won the Suruga Bank Cup in Japan. In the 2017-18 Primera División Championship, he was recognized for having the least beaten goal in the tournament: only 19 goals conceded in 27 matches. On September 25, 2020, Campaña signed a contract with Al-Batin Football Club, as a free agent due to a contractual conflict with Club Atlético Independiente. Campaña was a Uruguayan international between 2016 and 2022.
