FC Dallas was founded in 1996 as Dallas Burn and it's one of the founding members of the MLS. The club was rebranded FC Dallas in 2004, changing colours from red-white-black to mainly red and white with little blue details, only to make blue a main colour in 2018.
While the direct and official predecessor to FC Dallas is obviously Dallas Burn, the roots can go back to 1967 when Lamar Hunt founded the Dallas Tornado as one of the first professional soccer teams in the United States. The team played in the NASL for fifteen seasons before folding in 1981.
Three years later, two new Dallas-based teams were founded: the Dallas Sidekicks and the Dallas Mean Green. Both teams were founded in 1984. The Sidekicks were an indoor soccer team that existed until 2004. The Mean Green played in the amateur league Lone Star Soccer Alliance until 1992. The Mean Green changed name to Dallas Express in 1987, FC Dallas in 1989, and Dallas Inter in their final year. It's curious that they used for a few years the same name of the current MLS team.
