INFO:
Gabet Chapuisat was one of the most brilliant Swiss players during the 70s, thanks to an incredible technique and an extremely lucid vision of the game, he was selected 34 times for the national team in a 10 year span (1969-1979). A classic cleaner type of libero (sweeper), Chapuisat was an overly tough defensive boss, a knocker, a robber, the enfant terrible of Swiss football. His game consisted of lots of weighted passes which were sure and accurate, but also short passing game to tear apart the middle (using his outside foot as well). He did make mistakes in short passing, sometimes looking too casual, but made it up with his fighting spirit and mentality. Very quick and with great technique, he was able to both cover the whole back line, but also take it out with his dribbles, sometimes even running to the opposite goal. His jumper was very nice, however due to his height, he couldn't always head the ball out on corners. This great technician played as a libero as well as in the number 10 position in his early years (as he often did in Lausanne and later in Paris FC).

In 1967, as a 19-year-old, he scored a goal against FC Sion in the semi-finals of the Swiss Cup with Lausanne-Sports. The final took place on 15 May 1967 against FC Basel. The match was abandoned due to the refusal of the Lausanne players to continue playing after a controversial penalty decision by the referee and was subsequently assessed as a 0-3 defeat for Lausanne-Sports. In 1972–73, he played for Paris FC for one season, but then returned to Lausanne. In 1976, however, the temperamental Chapuisat had to leave Lausanne again after the other players had unanimously spoken out against him because of his "fits of rage". He then moved to champions FC Zurich and reached the semi-finals of the European Cup with the Zurich team in 1977. In Zurich, Chapuisat's leadership role was undisputed. After three years in Zurich, he returned to Lausanne in 1979. In 1981 he won the final of the Swiss Cup with Lausanne-Sports against FC Zurich.

Towards the end of his playing career, at the age of 36, he moved to Vevey Sports. In 1985, Chapuisat committed a foul on Lucien Favre in the match between Servette FC and Vevey-Sports, which was described as "the worst foul in Swiss football", although it had not been punished by the referee. Favre sued for intentional bodily harm, and Chapuisat received a fine of 5000,4 francs. Vevey-Sports dismissed him without notice. Chapuisat ended his playing career with FC Renens, who were also in the second tier.

By the way, Pierre-Albert "Gabet" CHAPUISAT is none other than the father of Stéphane, winner of the Champions League in 1997 with Borussia Dortmund and who may be one of the greatest player in the history of Swiss football.
