Attack/Defence Awareness Card: Attack MindedINFO:"Sky Jumper" and goal scorer, a robust and physically strong leader of the attack, fantastic in the air and resourceful in a crowded penalty area. A British isles style of player, he also achieved many penalties, always executing them with ´paradinha´, and there was a legend about him that many of his head goals were really made with his fist...
153 league appearances, 65 goals, 1978 Yugoslav Cup trophy, 3 national team appearances, excellent foreign career in Spain, legend status at Hercules. He played the best games in his career in 1977 and 1978, when he was considered the best center forward in the country with Filipović and Halilhodžić and when he recorded his three national team appearances. In the match against the Spaniards in 1977 in the qualifiers for the World Cup in Argentina, the then coach Valok gave him an advantage over the two big competitors due to, as he explained, a better and cleaner jump. It was the jump game that was the greatest quality of the leader of the Rijeka attack at the time, who, like most Yugoslav attackers from that period, belonged to the category of anchor center forwards and whose action and radius of movement were limited mainly to the opponent's penalty area.
He wore the jersey of Hercules from 1978 to 1981, played only 67 games, but left an eternal mark in Alicante. He was the idol of the fans, they called him "Pepe" because it was difficult for them to break their tongue around his real name, and how much his 34 goals were engraved in the hearts of everyone in Hercules is best expressed by the management's gesture - entrance number 9 to the "Jose Rico Peres" Stadium is named after Miodrag Kustudić! The fans of the club from Alicante were delighted with his strength, which is why they gave him an interesting nickname - Tank. Kustudic was very good at jumping, and he won over Hercules supporters by celebrating every goal with them. In the Alicante team he had stood out, both on and off the pitch. However, he had created a reputation for himself as a wayward, problematic player, something that never left him during his time later as a Mallorca player. He had a tendency to gain weight, he did not take care of himself excessively and to lose weight and get in shape they sent him to run to the beach with a belt loaded with several kilos of weight. Despite everything, his quality allowed him to score many goals. Still, nobody can deny that he was in the top 50 of Yugoslav strikers of all time.
Just one of the comments reflecting his jumping ability:
"What a rebound this man had! I remember the front page in Tempo (one of the most famous Yugoslav sports papers), when Aleksandar Dika Stojanović (Red Star goalkeeper), jumping and with outstretched arms, takes the ball off the head of Rijeka's centre-forward. As far as I remember based on the measurement of "reflection from the place", only Praja Dalipagić (famous basketball player), Duje Krstulović (another basketball player) and Jovica Cvetković (famous handball player) had a couple of cm bigger jumper than him."
