INFO:

Known as the “Tunisian Michel Platini” Tarak Dhiab is a former football player, businessman, and TV commentator for the Al-Jazeera Sports TV channel. Born on July 15, 1954 Dhiab grew up playing football in the streets of Tunis. After his family moved from the El Khadera neighborhood to Ariana, Dhiab began playing for the Sporting Association of Ariana Football Club. He showed great promise and commitment to football from a young age and he was quickly signed by one of the strongest Tunisian clubs, Esperance Sportive de Tunis. It did not take long for him to began playing in the number 10 shirt which became his trademark.

Dhiab was the only Tunisian player ever to earn the title of African Player of the Year which was awarded to him in 1977. He received the award for his performances which helped Tunisia qualify for the 1978 World Cup in Argentina– the first of four World Cup tournaments that Tunisia would participate in. The entire world was able to watch Dhiab’s performances for three matches at the 1978 World Cup. He provided three assists for Tunisia’s three goals in their 3-1 victory over Mexico in Rosario, Argentina. While Tunisia was unable to advance due to a subsequent 0-0 draw with West Germany and 0-1 loss to Poland, the National Team of Tunisia was welcomed back to the country as though they were champions for their strong first World Cup performance. The Tunisian National Team has been unable to win a World Cup match in three subsequent tournaments.

At the time, football in Tunisia was an entirely semi-professional game and Dhiab went to Saudi Arabia to play for two seasons with the professional Al-Ahly Jeddah football club. Dhiab was known as a very strong reader of the game of football, always finding ways to dribble or pass the ball into open spaces. While he scored many goals in his career, he was an unselfish player always passing the ball when it was the best option for him. While Dhiab retired from playing football in 1990, he remained heavily involved in the Tunisian game and served as the Vice President of his former club Esperance. In 2004 he started his own weekly football show on the Al Jazeera Sports channel viewed by audiences around the Arab speaking world.

Dhiab won wide acclaim from the Tunisian public in May 2008, although he temporarily jeopardized his career, when he refused to shake hands with the Ben Ali regime appointed Tunisian Minister of Sports Abdullah Kaabi after Esperance won the Tunisian Championship. He was subsequently fired as the Vice President of Esperance and fined for what he called “a cooked up traffic violation” in October 2008. After the Tunisian Revolution, on January 20th, 2011 Dhiab called the ruling RCD Party “Tunisia’s biggest problem” and called for it’s quick dissolution. In the same interview, Dhiab said that “Ben Ali and his corrupted family used sports and football to distract the Tunisian public from their real problems.” He singled out Ben Ali’s cousin Slim Chiboub as the man “who corrupted sports and especially football in Tunisia.”

During the summer of 2011, Dhiab joined Tunisia’s Islamist political party, Ennahda. His name has been leaked by officials in the interim government headed by Prime Minister Hammadi Jebali as the next Minister of Sport and Youth. While the decision to make Dhiab a Minister in the new government has drawn controversy, his critics point to the fact that he was never educated beyond an elementary school education, the decision was widely respected by those closest to Dhiab. ”Congrats to Tarak for his nomination to be a Minister in Tunisia’s first free government,” said his former teammate and World Cup 1978 right back Khalid Gasmi. ”Michel Platini has no higher education and he is the President of UEFA,” Gasmi added. Gasmi’s best memory of his former star teammate was when the two collided and Dhiab broke his nose in a World Cup qualification match against Algeria in 1976.

This set needs an update. He was good, but not that good.

ATT, TEC, dribbling stats, they are all too high. My suggestions:

ATT : 80
DAC : 88
TEC : 87
TMW : 80

An this is just the start. There are more changes needed. ;)
