He played for Czechoslovakia national team in 19 matches and scored 6 goals. Petráš was a participant at the 1970 FIFA World Cup, where he played in three matches and scored two goals. Petráš also played at the Euro 1976, where his team won the gold medal. Petráš played for Dukla Banská Bystrica and later Inter Bratislava.
Laco was from beginning of his football career unpredictable player. Scored 3 goals and left field, other time fled hospital in order to play a match, and after the match he returned to the hospital. From Dukla Banska Bystrica came to Inter Bratislava, where he became in season 1974/1975 again "king of league scorers with 20 goals ( before 1968/1969 as a player of Dukla Banska Bystrica - 20 ). Represented Czechoslovakia in World cup 1970 in Mexico, where he shined in first match against Brazil and was a member of team Czechoslovakia, which won qualification group for European championship 1976 in Yugoslavia. He was often sidelined by injuries and his hot temper, brilliant technique and football thinking was known to everybody. Player, every trainer would love to have in his roster. Even Pele after seeing him play against Brazil in 1970 World cup praised him a lot..
I will never forget match"Inter-Lokomotiva Kosice 4 :2" ( 1976/1977 ). Inter led 3 : 0, but Lokomotiva all of the sudden scored 2 goals( 3 : 2 ) and victory was not sure. Football got to the out by player of Lokomotiva. Boy handed football to Petras, but he was not in hurry ( saving time ) with out throw. Football dropped from his hands (!?!) . As he went to pick it up, by mistake ( !?! ) he kicked it farther. This kept repeating about 3-times. Referee started to pull out " yellow card".When Petras did see it, he came to referee, told him something with smile and stroke him on head. After all yellow card stayed in referee's pocket and Inter won match 4 : 2.
In the match "Inter-Sparta 7 : 4" ( 1974/1975 ) scored Laci -Baci ( nickname ) 5 goals, from which 3 were from penalties. ( It did not used to happen very often, referee would whistle penalty against Sparta Prague ( Czech republic now ) which was that time prominent team in former Czechoslovakia, let alone 3-per match ).
