INFO:Gimona was a talented player who was deployed in most positions throughout the years. His career began in 1940. After some seasons in lower leagues, he joined Milan in 1945. His main position with the
Rossoneri was inside-forward but he could play also as winger on both sides. He proved to be a fast runner and a good dribbler. His tasks were to provide assists and get inside the box by overcoming the defenders inside to score. He scored 21 goals in 59 matches for Milan between 1945 and 1947.
Gimona transferred first to Livorno in 1947 − scoring 6 goals in 71 matches in two seasons − and then to Palermo in 1949 − 9 goals in 124 matches until 1953. During these six years his main position was changed to winger. He didn't score as much as he did at Milan but he provided many assists. However, Livorno's coach Mario Magnozzi noticed Gimona's attitude to defend. Therefore, he started using him also as half-back as Gimona took advantage of his speed to intercept and recover balls. During the period with the
Rosanero, he had the best and worst time of his career: he capped for Italy 3 times in the 1951-52 biennium, scoring 3 goals, but he also risked to be disqualified for life after a horrible foul he committed on Bruno Pesaola that almost cost the Argentinian his career. The suspension was then reduced to two years and then eleven months.
His great performances led him to play for Juventus. He spent two seasons with the
Bianconeri, making 46 appearances in two seasons and scoring once. He played way less than he did in the previous clubs but his performances were still on high level. He was now a proper half-back, capable of playing as side-back or centre back. He did what he could as defender, covering the space, marking his opponents and making clearances. Understandably though his speed wasn't the same anymore and it was difficult for him to mark fast wingers. He retired in 1959 after experiences at Pro Patria, Livorno and Empoli.
