Crawford was a striker who spent most of his career at Ipswich Town. He started at Portsmouth in 1957 and was bought by Ipswich the following season. Here he played 197 matches and scored 143 goals in five seasons, winning 2 caps for England and scoring 1 goal. He joined then Wolverhampton Wanderers in 1963 and scored 39 goals in 57 matches in two seasons. After a one-year spell at West Bromwich Albion, he came back to Ipswich where he played three more seasons, scoring 61 goals in 123 games. After spells at Charlton Athletic, Kettering Town, Colchester United and Durban City, he retired in 1971. Crawford was a very prolific striker who formed a terrific couple with Ted Phillips at Ipswich. Crawford often bounced Phillips' shots which were so hard that the goalkeeper couldn't hold them. Crawford wasn't just an incredible scorer but he also had good ball control, was one of the best header of his time and widely considered one of the best "in-box" strikers of his time. He never passed the ball when he was inside the area as well as his teammate Phillips never did when he was outside the area. Ipswich Town 2-0 Aston Villa: Crawford scored both goals Colchester United 3-2 Leeds United: Crawford scored the first two goals
