Asamoah is a former left-back or left side midfielder who could also play as central midfielder. He started his professional career at Udinese in 2008, spending four seasons in Friuli, making 138 appearances and scoring 8 goals. In 2012, he transferred to Juventus where he had his most successful time, playing 156 games, scoring 5 goals and winning six Serie A titles in a row. He left the Bianconeri in 2018 and retired in 2021 following forgettable experiences with Inter and Cagliari. He capped for Ghana 74 times, scoring 4 goals.
Asamoah was an excellent player, gifted with high stamina, mostly focused on supporting the attack with his ball distribution, but also capable in the defence thanks to covering and anticipation abilities. He had solid pace, was physically strong, and remarkable from a technical perspective. His ball control was usually accurate but his dribbling was a threat for the defenders. The opposing teams were often forced to rely on two defenders to close Asamoah the space and stop him. His shots were packed with good power and he could kick the ball with the outside quite well, but the trajectory wasn't always accurate. Lastly, he had a decent heading ability that he primarily used to clear the ball away to avoid risky situations for his team.
