INFO:
Hasule was a right-back or centre-back who could apparently also play on the left. His career started in 1979 at Mbale Heroes. In 1982, he transferred to SC Villa where he had huge success, winning eight league titles, four national cups and a CECAFA Club Championship. He was the team captain from 1985 until his retirement in 1993. He represented Uganda from 1982 to 1993, earning at least 20 caps and scoring not less than 6 goals. He was the national team captain from 1988 to 1992 and led Uganda to back-to-back CECAFA titles in 1989 and 1990.
Signed by SC Villa as a striker, Hasule didn't impress in this role and was shifted to defence where he quickly formed an impeccable duo with Jimmy Kirunda. Hasule still had the ability to go upfront and score as he had the brains and instinct, but he wasn't a natural forward. Therefore, he became a right-back, sometimes utilised as centre-half. Considered one of the best defenders in Uganda's history, Hasule was nicknamed "V8" after the Land Rover for his ability to play effortlessly in all kinds of pitches. When he was on the pitch, he gave confidence to his teammates. Hasule wasn't a mechanical player as not only could he defend, but he could also dribble, pass the ball and score, likely thanks to his start of career as striker. He was tall, athletic, stocky, steady, strong, confident, very fast, good in the air, capable of reading the game well and making admirable forward runs.
Hasule had some remarkable matches like the AFCON qualifier on September 1982 against Tanzania where he scored the decisive goal in a 3-2 win, or the Olympic qualifier in 1984 where he first scored a brace and then set up strikers Phillip Omondi and Issa Ssekatawa to help Uganda obtain a historic 4-1 win over Algeria. But his most memorable game was the 1989 Peace Cup final against Iraq, although Iraq eventually won after the penalty shootout: Sula Kato took a corner that went past Majid Musisi and Umar Senoga only to be received by Steven Bogere at the edge of the box; the skilled dribbler Bogere set the ball for Geoffrey Higenyi who was though challenged by an Iraqi player; therefore, Higenyi decided to skip the ball which ended on the feet of Hasule who unleashed a 25-meter long shot that swerved into the Iraqi net.
In 1991, Hasule received a year ban from the Ugandan federation for punching referee Fred Wanyama during a match against UCI. The defender was so influential that some of his SC Villa teammates abandoned the cranes team in protest, decreasing Uganda's chances to qualify for the 1992 AFCON. Hasule's ban was lifted after three months but at that point Uganda had already lost the decisive match against DR Congo.
