INFO:
Kateregga was a left-winger with the jersey n°11 who could also play as n°10 attacking midfielder. His career started in 1977 with Tobacco FC. He then had his most prolific stint at Kampala City FC from 1979 to 1984: two league titles, two national cups, one Champions League quarter-final. He was also back-to-back team top scorer in 1982 and 1983. He then played for rivals SC Villa between 1985 and 1987, winning two more league titles and one more national cup. He retired in 1989 after spending two years at Express FC. He allegedly played also for Kenyan team Kenya Breweries. He represented the Uganda national team from 1979 to 1988, earning at least 7 caps and scoring not less than 4 goals. He passed away in 1999 at the young age of 39.
Nicknamed "Superstar" for his super football skills, charming character, great flair and creativity, Kateregga is often regarded as the best left-winger in Uganda's history. Kateregga was gifited with great dribbling abilities as he could do all sort of tricks that often left defenders disoriented, although his trademark move was the double scissors. He could touch the ball with any part of his body, keeping it in the air for a while before stopping it to the ground, entertaining the crowds and teasing his opponents at the same time. He was a menace for most defenders as he could dribble at high speed, spoiling a whole defence before unleashing a powerful shot, although he was cheeky when he was one-on-one against the goalkeeper as Kateregga would then prefer to chip the ball over instead of blasting it. Both clubs and national team relied on him for goals. In fact, his shooting ability and ball touch were flawless. Furthermore, he could use both feet despite being a natural left-footed, moved well near to the byline, could cut inside, and was dominant in the air thanks to a good height. He scored at least one goal from penalty, that being in a 2-1 loss against Sudan when Kateregga scored with a powerful shot after he figured out the direction the goalkeeper was diving to. While he was a deadly attacker, one of the most impressive forwards in Uganda during the 1980s, and arguably the finest dribbler in the country, Kateregga was unfortunately a temperamental player who lacked discipline and was lazy during training. For example, he infamously refused to be substituted during a 1980 match against Mbale Heroes, but later he scored and then raced to his team's technical bench before spitting at his coach Abdullahrahman Hippo. The following year, after he was mocked by a fan during a match against UCB, Kateregga identified the supporter and knocked him out cold.
